Paper 3 Flashcards
What is systematic sampling
Advantages and Disadvantages
Samples selected at regular intervals
Easy and covers whole study area equally
However, not all sample sites can be accessed due to vegetation or private land
What is random sampling
Advantages and Disadvantages
Random generator method:
Pros:
Least bias method
Can be used in a large sample area or population
Cons:
Representation may be poor if random generating misses large areas
What is stratified sampling?
People or places are deliberately chosen according to the area or topic being investigated
Comparisons can be made between subsets
Proportions of subsets need to be known and be accurate
How can you measure angle?
Gun clinometer
Why is IQR better than the range?
It removes extremes
Acronym for describing choropleth maps?
Trend
Examples
Anomalies
Method for sediment analysis
Lay a transect from one side of the bay to the other
Systematic Sampling
Sediment type using visual observations
Sediment roundness using the power scale
Pebble size using callipers
