it is a special relationship and connection with God and the heart of being a Jew

an agreement between 2 parties which benefit both of them

God told Moses to lead the israelites to freedom and once he had done so, to stay free God told moses the commandments to follow and set them into 2 slabs of stone

- He was labeled as the “prophet”
- He is a mediator between God and Israel
- He helped spread the Jewish word
What does God’s side of the covenant involve
- Freeing israelites
- He will be a good God to his people
- He will never abandon them
What does Moses’ side of the covenant involve
- His people must be obedient

How is the sinai important in life today for Orthodox jews
- They believe they were written by Moses so must be the word of God, so they are following the word of God
- They are a set of rules to follow and keep people with a good conscience
How is the sinai important for Reformed jews
- They are the only commandments reformed Jews follow as many ignore lots of the other 613 rules.
- They see the rules as a good base guide to living a good life
