Define Visual Guidance
Guidance usually given in the form of a demonstration
Advantages/Disadvantages of Visual Guidance
Advantages- provides learner with a mental image
Disadvantages- Needs to be accurate and clear otherwise can be learnt incorrectly
Define Verbal Guidance
Key terminology or phrases associated with a certain skill that can be given in a clear verbal explanation
Advantages/Disadvantages of Verbal Guidance
Advantages- Tactics can be explained, highlight cues
Disadvantages- Can overload beginners with information
Define Manual Guidance
When coaches use the ‘hands on approach’, physically touching the performer
Advantages/Disadvantages of Manual Guidance
Advantages- Builds confidence, eliminates danger
Disadvantages- Learner may become dependent on support, proximity of the coach may be upsetting
Define Mechanical Guidance
The use of equipment to help aid a performer
Advantages/Disadvantages of Mechanical Guidance
Advantages- Promotes confidence, ensures safety
Disadvantage- Learner may become dependent on the equipment
Define Intrinsic Feedback
Type of feedback that happens within the performer as a result of producing movement through the kinesthetic senses
What are the 2 types of Extrinsic Feedback?
- Knowledge of the results
- Knowledge of the performance
Define Positive Feedback
Information that rewards or praises a performance. This helps strengthen the S-R bond and can be extremely motivating
Define Negative Feedback
This can be in the form of criticism and may be catered around poorer aspects of the performance
