How is question 3 similar to?
A
it analyses structure, rather than language
analyses the structure part of AO2 ( you should already know AO2 )
need to talk about how the writer uses structure to achieve effects and influence on the reader

What is the general structure of literature?
A
- exposition
- introduces the setting and the main characters
- rising action
- a series of events to keep the reader interested
- climax
- the main character comes face-to-face with a problem and has a choice to make
- falling action
- the problem unreavels, the hero either wins or loses
- denouement
- the fallout from the way the character deal with the climax

How may a writer increase tension?
A
often take their focus away from the very thing you want to know about
makes the reader feel emotionally strained
reader begins to imagine

What should you do for the point ‘WHAT THE WRITER FOCUSES ON AT THE START’?
A
- examine the first paragraph of the extra on a sentance-by-sentance basis
- what do you notice about the structure of this paragraph?
- what happens where?
- how does this relate to the question (e.g. how does this interest the reader)

What should you do for the point - HOW AND WHY THIS FOCUS CHANGES THROUGHOUT THE TEXT?
A
- consider the topics of each paragraph
- rules of writing clearly state that a writer must change paragraph when writing about a different topic
- what different structural devices are used and how do they change over the course of the extract
- use technical terms
- why does the writer use this structure
- again, look for the most perceptive points

How should you bring it all together?
A
- answer most important and perceptive points in case time runs out
- does not have to be in order of bullet points necessarily
