A

A

A

A pilgrimage is a journey to a holy place with a event in the life of Jesus or a Holy St

People go on pilgrimage to:
To take time out from everyday life to strengthen and deepen their faith and get closer to God

To say thank you for something good that has happened

To make up for something they have done wrong (penance)

To ask for help or healing

To show devotion to a particular St

Companionship/community with others to share faith and experiences

A

A

The sick are prayed for and taken to bath in water from the spring
The blessed sacrament procession, a monstrance carting the blessed sacrament is carried by a priest, the sacrament is followed by by a group of priests who celebrate the right. The procession end at the underground Basilica.
The torchlight procession takes place outside the Grotto, follows the rout if the blessed sacrament, each participant will carry a candle, the focus of this procession is the rosary. The Lourdes hymn is song, there is the final blessing and then signs of peace are exchanged

Refrain from unnecessary work and enjoy a day of rest and recreation
Practice good works such as visiting the elderly and spending time with family

Catholics believe that during the mass Jesus is truly present under the form if bread and wine
Catholics believe that in the mass Jesus’ perfect sacrifice on the cross is made present today and continues to save people today
Communication with Jesus in the mass helps people to develop their relationship with God because of the the mass is a sacrament
During the mass we experience in word and sacrament Gods love for us and we have the duty to extend that love to the people we need in our daily lives

A

The altar is made of stone or wooden or metal table. It is placed at the freak point of the church, front, it is where the sacrifice of Jesus is takes place.

The crucifix is made of wood, Jesus is shown on the cross, it is normally above the alter.

The tabernacle is a gold or metal box that houses the unused host.

The lectern is a book stand, which the lectionaries is placed and the word of God is read during the, Mass. It is usually the front to the right of the alter.

The baptismal font is a basin, usually on a column of wood or stone, which contains water used in the celebration of baptism, usually found to the left of the alter.

A

A

Catholic parents being their Infant to the church joined by grandparents, making the promises if the sacrament for the child.
At the door- the parents are welcomed and asked if they are willing to bring their child up as God intended, they reply yes. Sign of the cross is made and the child’s head.
The Lectern-a celebration of Gods word, followed by a short homily to give a deeper understanding of baptism.
The Font- celebration of the sacrament, the child’s parents and grandparents make promises on behalf of them.
The Alter- looking forward, prayers are said, ‘our father’. The church looks forward to the other sacraments of initiation.

Water- symbol of life as we would die without it, symbol of death as it can be a destructive force. Symbol of rebirth as the person has dies to sin and now lives a new life

A

A
