A

Jesus is Baptised in the river Jordan by John the Baptist
The heavens open and God the Fathers voice is heard
God says ‘this is my son, my beloved (listen to him)’
The holy spirt descended on Jesus in the from of a dove

Why is Baptism important

A

Receive the holy spirt so we can resist temptation and carry out our mission
Washes away original sin
We are now part of the family of the Church which supports and guides us

Why conformation is important

A

It complete the gifts of the holy spirt given at Baptism,
we make baptismal vows as adults
We choose to continue in our adult Christian journey
We are guided and supported by our chosen St and human sponson

The rite if conformation

A

Person is presented to the Church
Person makes baptismal vows
Laying on of hands- the holy spirt is called down
Announced with oils and sealed with the guilts of the holy spirt
(The minister is the Bishop or Archbishop- a apostle)

Catholics beliefs about life after death

A

Heaven is with God with love
Hell is without God without love
Purgatory is preparing to be with God with love after death
It is the soul of a person that is eternal
Particular judgement is when God judged me on how I have lived my life at the moment of my death
(Agape) ( how loving you have been)
Final judgement is when God judges all people at the end of time (sheep and goats)

Funeral rite

A

Coffin is welcomed and sprinkled with Holy water
White cloth and bible place in the coffin- a reminder that the person has been baptised and lived there life according to Gods word
Mass is celebrated
Coffin is sprinkled with holy water again and incensed
Prayer of commendation
At the graveside prayer of commital

Describe the Crucifixion

A

Jesus is nailed to the cross
Jesus asks his father to forgive all if us
Thief on Jesus right asks Jesus to remember him in heaven- Jesus tells him he will be with him in heave that day
Jesus asks God why he has forsaken him
Jesus dies
The veil of the temple is torn in two to show that God is now for all people and that death has been defeated

Why is the Crucifixion and resurrection important

A

The crucifixion is important because without Jesus sacrifice we cannot have our sings forgive
Only Jesus death can atone for our sins

The resurrection is important because if Jesus does not rise from the dead then death cannot be defeated and we cannot have eternal life in heaven

The sacrifice of the mass

A

The mass is a sacrifice because Jesus’ death for the forgiveness of our sins is RENEWED
In the mass Jesus is really resent- the bread and wine are transubstantiated- they change substance and become Jesus body and blood
Catholics revive Jesus nosy and blood so that’s their sins can be forgiven and they can be an example of Jesus in there lives
