Paper 1 Flashcards
Diffusion?
Net movement of particles from a high concentration to a low concentration
Osmosis?
Net movement from an area of high water potent to an area with low water potent through a partially permeable membrane
Active Transport?
Net movement from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration
Explain The Osmosis RP
1.Use cork borer to take 5 cores from 1 potato
2.Cut off any of the skin then trim them with ruler
3.Blot cylinders to remove excess water
4.Balance each cylinder to measure their initial mass.
5.Add each one to your sucrose solutions & leave for 15 mins
6.Then remove cylinders, blot excess water & record final mass
7.Old number-new number/original number x 100
Risk Factor?
Things that are linked to an increase in the likelihood a person will develop a certain disease during their lifetime
How does the heart pump blood around the body?
First it pumps deoxygenated blood to the lungs to take in oxygen and return it to the heart. Then it pumps oxygenated blood around the other organs so they deliver oxygen to the body cells
What does the right atrium do?
Receives blood from the body (through vena cava)
What does the right ventricle do?
Moves the deoxygenated blood through itself to the lungs
What does the left atrium do?
Receives oxygenated blood from lungs
What does the left ventricle do?
Then moves the oxygenated blood through itself which pumps it around the whole body
Aerobic respiration equation?
C6H12O6 + 6O2 –> 6CO2 + 6H2O
What increases during exercise
Heart rate, breathing rate and breath volume (to supply muscles with more energy + glucose for the increase in aerobic respiration
What is metabolism
Sum of all the chemical reactions in a cell or in the body
Vaccine Points for 4 Marker
1.Vaccines have weakened forms of a pathogen
2.Once injected this stimulates the white blood cells, producing anti-bodies
3.Memory cells are also made
4.When re-exposed to the pathogen, the anti-bodies are made very quickly
