How do you prepare a sample of food to be tested?
A
Grind food samples using a mortar and pestle
Mix with water
Filter with funnel and filter paper

How would you test for the presence of starch in a sample?
A
Add iodine solution to the sample. If it is present the solution turns from brown to blue-black

How would you test for the reducing of sugar in a sample?
A
Add Benedict’s reagent, boil test tube in hot water. If sugars reducing a brick red precipitate forms but if not it stays blue

How would you test for the present of protein?
A
Add Beirut solution, then shake and if it’s present it turns from blue to purple
