PAP Monitoring Flashcards
Pap
Clinical techniques used to asses pressure within pulmonary artery which is crucial for evaluating functions of heart and lungs
Types
Spap
Peak pressure during the heart contraction when blood is pumped into pulmonary artery
Dpap
Lowest pressure in pulmonary artery during the heart relaxation phase
Mpap
Average monitoring pressure during one cardiac cycle it is commonly used to asses most of the pulmonary vascular resistance
Spap 15-30mmhg
Dpap 4-12 mmhg
Mpap 9-18 mmhg
Methods
Swan ganz catheter
Non invasive like electrocardiography
Elevated pap indicates pulmonary vascular resistance -pulmonary hypertension COPD heartfailure
Low pap can be seen in hypovolemic sepsis shock
Complications
Infections
catheter related issues
Pulmonary artery rupture
