What are the two separate functions of the pancreas?
- Endocrine: insulin
- Exocrine: Digestive enzymes
What are the two types of pancreatitis?
Acute and chronic
What are the 2 main causes of pancreatitis?
- Gallbladder disease
2. Alcohol
What are s/s of pancreatitis?
- Pain
- Abd distension/ascites
- Abd mass
- Rigid board-like abdomen
- Bruising around umbilical area
- Fever
- N/V
- Jaundice
- Hypotension
Does pain increase of decrease with eating?
Increase (sends signals to initiate digestive enzymes)
Why does and distension/ascites occur?
Losing protein right fluids like enzymes and blood into abd
Why is there an and mass?
Swollen pancreas
What does a rigid board like and mean? (with guarding)
-bleeding that can lead to peritonitis
What is a Cullen’s sign?
bruising around umbilical area
What is a Grey-Turners sign?
Bruising in the flank area
Why do they have a fever?
Inflammation
Why do they have hypotension?
Bleeding or ascites
Will serum lipase and amylase be elevated or decreased?
Elevated
Will WBCs be elevated or decreased?
Elevated
Will blood sugar be elevated of decreased?
Elevated
