Pancreas Flashcards
What type of cells are found in pancreas?
Exocrine cells
Islet of Langerhans = alpha, eta and delta
What are the endocrine cells of the pancreas?
Islet of Langerhans - alpha, beta, delta
What do alpha cells secrete?
Glucagon
What do beta cells secrete?
Insulin
What do defat cells secrete?
Somatostatin
What is the effect glucagon on glucose?
Increase
What is the effect of insulin on glucose?
Decrease
What is the effect of somatostatin?
Regulates insulin dn glucagon secretion (inhibits)
All 3 hormones released from pancreas are peptide hormones. How are they released from secreting cell?
Exocytosis
What pathway does insulin activate in target cells?
Tyrosine kinase pathway
What pathways do glucagon and somatostatin activate in target cells?
cAMP signal transduction pathway
What stimulates the release of insulin?
Raise blood glucose, increased AA and digestive hormones
Why does increased AA increase insulin release?
Used to promote protein synthesis
What decreases insulin release?
Low blood glucose, somatostatin
What is DM classified by?
Elevated blood glucose
