PANCREAS Flashcards
Where is the pancreas located?
overlies and transversely crosses L1 and L2 bodies on the posterior abdominal wall
it is posterior to the stomach and is between the duodenum on the right and the spleen on the left
where does the transverse mesocolon attach on the pancreas?
the anterior margin
explain how it is divided
head, neck, body, tail
where is the uncinate process?
it is a projection of the head of the pancreas that lies posterior to the SMA. it is embraced by the c shaped curve of the duodenum
where is the neck?
the neck of the pancreas overlies the superior mesenteric vessels which form a groove in it’s posterior surface
is the neck covered with peritoneum?
the anterior surface is covered with peritoneum and is adjacent to the pylorus of the stomach
where is the body?
continuous with the neck and left to the superior mesenteric vessels. passes over the aorta and the L2 body.
is it covered in peritoneum?
none on the posterior part but anterior surface has some
what is the posterior part in contact with~?
aorta, sma, left kidney, left renal gland and renal vessels
where is the tail?
anterior to the left kidney - passes through the splenorenal ligament with the splenic vessels
where is the main pancreatic duct?
begins at the tail and runs through to the head. It is closely attached to the bile duct and the two unite to form the AOV
what is the blood supply to the pancreas?
anterior and posterior superior pancreaticoduodenal arteries from the gastroduodenal from the common hepatic from the celiac trunk and anterior and posterior inferior pancreaticoduodenal from the SMA
what is the venous drainage to the pancreas?
follows the arterial supply- most drain into splenic butr small amount drains into the SMV
