Pancreas Flashcards
What two kinds of secretions does the pancreas create and what are their differences?
Exocrine and endocrine. Exocrine is secretions that helps with the digestion and endocrine are hormones. The exocrine are released threw the pancreatic duct and the endocrine are released directly to the blood.
Whats the exocrine production of the pancreas
Amylase, Lipase, & Trypsinogen
What does Amylase do?
It breaks down Carbohydrates.
What does Lipase do?
It breaks down Fat.
What does Trypsinogen do?
It transforms into Trypsin which breaks down Protein.
Whats the Endocrine production of the pancreas?
It produces Insuline, glucagon, and Somatostatin.
What does Insuline and Glucagon do?
They regulate the sugar level in the blood.
What does Somatostatin do?
It is a anta growth hormone, it regulates the growth of a person and regulates the endocrine system.
Describe the organs in the small intesteine.
First come the Duodenum, then the Jejunum, and then the Ileum which ends at the Ileocecal valve to the large intestine
Describe the duodenum
Its a around 10-12 inches long tub shaped organ (25-30 cm) connected to the stomach threw the Pyloris sphincter. most chemical digestion takes place here.
Whats the 4 parts of the duodenum
First part is called the (superior) bulb, second part is called the descending, 3rd is called the horizontal, and the 4th is called the ascending and ends at around L2 in the duodenojejunal flexture.
whats the role of the gallblader
Its a storage for bile exocrine by the live.
Describe the placing of the Pancreas
The pancreas is a transversly placed organ just posterior of the inferior part of the stomach and superior of the two major blood vessels in the abdomen, the Abdominal aorta and the Inferior Vena Cava.
Describe the shape of the pancreas
The head of the pancreas head is placed in the C shape of the duodenum and it is here the pancreatic duct ends in the “Sphincter of Oddi” into the Duodenum. the head and the body is the part further away from the head.
Whats another name for the inferior part of the Head of the pancreas
The Uncinate process.
