Pain treatments Flashcards
1
Q
NSAIDs MOA
A
- inhibit prostaglandin release by inhibiting COX enzymes that produce it
- anti-inflammatory + analgesic effects
2
Q
Pregabalin class, indication + MOA
A
Gabapentinoids - neuropathic pain
- bind to A2 delta subunit on calcium channels
- decrease Ca influx into pre-synaptic neuron
- therefore decrease release of neurotransmitters
3
Q
Amitriptyline + Duloxetine class + MOA
A
Amitriptyline = TCAs
Duloxetine = SNRIs
- inhibition of synaptic noradrenaline + serotonin reuptake
- therefore strengthens pain modulation
4
Q
Opioids MOA
A
- agonists at mu receptor
- decrease adenylyl cyclase activity therefore decrease cellular activity in CNS
- therefore dampen pain
5
Q
THC class + effects
A
- partial antagonist at CB receptors
- increase sleep, decrease pain
6
Q
CBD class + effects
A
- antagonist at CB receptors
- manage seizures + pain
- decrease anxiety
