Otitis media with effusion and it caused by fluid in the middle ear, usually after a URTI. These are extremely commonly and rarely need intervention

A

If the fluid is causing measurable speech and language developmental delays or there’re symptoms for more than 3 months it may be treated with grommets +/- adenectomy

What is the management in acute epiglottitis?

A

This is an emergency.
Stay calm and do not try to look at the throat, this can cause laryngeal oedema and cause obstruction.
Phone for senior anaesthetic help immediately. Experienced nurses will have seen this before and show be hailed quickly for support in keeping child and parent calm. Give oxygen and IV chloramphenicol
