- Up to what age will RCH accept pts?
Any pt up to and including 15 and is the destination of choice for trauma and burns in this age range. If pt has relevant past hx at RCH they will accept pt up to and including 18 years.
- What are the weight ranges for paeds?
<24 hours = 3.5kg 3 months = 6kg 6 months = 8kg 1 year = 10kg 1-9 years = Age x 2 + 8 10-11 years = Age x 3.3 [10 = 33kg, 11 = 36kg)
- What are the HR and BP ranges for paeds?
Newborn/Small infant = HR 110-170, BP >60
Large infant = HR 105-165, BP >65
Small child = HR 85-150, BP >70
Medium child = HR 70-135, BP >80
- What are the RR ranges for paeds?
Newborn/Small infant = 25-60
Large infant = 25-55
Small child = 20-40
Medium child = 16-34
- What is the FLACC scale of pain?
- Face = 2 points is frequent frown, clenched jaw or quivering chin
- Legs = 2 points is kicking or legs drawn up
- Activity = Arched, rigid or jerking
- Cry = crying steadily, screams, sobs, frequent complaints
- Consolability = difficult to console or comfort
- What is the red flag for SpO2?
SpO2 <96%
- What are the specific conditions for paed red flags?

Anaphylaxis Unable to walk Stridor Febrile >38 in small infant Ingestion/inhalation of toxic substance Testicular pain Post-tonsillectomy bleeding up to 14 days post-op Inhalation of foreign body Non-blanching rash Seizure - first presentation
- What is the child Verbal response scale in GCS for ≤4yrs?
5 - Appropriate words/smile 4 - Cries - consolable 3 - Persistently irritable 2 - Moans to pain 1 - None
- What are the vital signs for Paed TCG?
0-3mth: HR <100 or >180, RR>60, BP<50
4-12mth: HR <100 or >180, RR>50, BP<60
1-4yrs: HR <90 or >160, RR>40, BP<70
5-11yrs: HR <80 or >140, RR>30, BP<80
SpO2<90%
GCS<15
- What are the components of the Paediatric Assessment Triangle?
Appearance: Tone, Interactiveness, Consolability, Look/Gaze, Speech/Cry
WOB: Abnormal breath sounds, Abnormal positioning, Retractions, Nasal flaring
Circulation to skin: Pallor, Mottling, Cyanosis
