Location
One large room is perferable to a number of smaller rooms
Type of Room
Same as the rest of the funeral home.
- Not too ornate to take away from caskets
- Pastels, neutral colors are best
- Wide doors- no steps
- Light or white ceiling
- Carpet multi-color to hide dirt and wear
- Restrooms
- Focal points, such as small statues, flower arrangements, furniture groupings in various locations soften and break up the room.
Decor
Gives the consumer something familiar and comforting to look at and in the case of furniture, provides a place to rest and think.
Focal Points
- Best is indirect, recessed, incandescent lighting (or LED or compact fluorescent).
- 90-100 foot candles is optimal
- Avoid fluorescent lighting
- High intensity halogen lighting- clean, bright, good color rendering ability.
- High initial cost, but operating costs slightly less for halogens.
Lighting
Amount of illumination produced by a source of one candle at a distance of one foot.
- 90-100 is optimal for traditional display room.

Single Casket Standard
A device upon which two or three caskets are placed, one on top of another for display.
- Be sure the rack is sturdy
Casket Rack
A whelled collapsible support for the casket, used in the funeral home, church or other location when moving a casket.
Church Truck (Casket Carriage)
- Sturdy- able to support the weight and movement of the casket.
- Attractive- Clean, dust free, no scratches, dents, broken parts

Caskets in groups according to their relative positions within the value/price progression.

Fractional Display
- Personalized themes can be created in the selection room.
- Consumers feel more comfortable and less threatened.
- Funeral directors- when used with good better best may subtly encourage consumers to purchase higher quality caskets.

Ideally a vault room showing actual vaults- not practiced in today’s market.
- Use manufacturer’s display and literature.
Display of Vaults
- Never show in boxes
- Number to have varies according to community. Usually today, families bring in clothes of the deceased.
- Stock underclothes for men and women
Display of Burial Garments
Should be displayed elsewhere, or printed materials to complement certain “themes” in the selection room.

- Printed materials- register books, memorial folders/prayer cards, acknowledgement cards
- Name plates
- Religious, service emblems
- Personalization items
- Any other material related to the funeral
