P8 - forces Flashcards
What is the difference between a vector and scalar
A scalar has magnitude, a vector has magnitude and direction
What is Newton’s 3rd law
When two objects interact, they exert equal and opposite forces on each other
What is Newton’s 1st law
When the forces acting on an object are equal, the object remains stationary or moving at a constant speed and direction
Where is an objects centre of mass
The point at the average position of all that objects particles
What does stability depend on
How low the centre of mass is, and how wide the base of the object is
Word equation for moment
Moment = force x perpendicular distance from point
What is moment
A measure of the force on a lever/seesaw
What properties do larger gears have
Turn slower
Larger moment
Large turning effect (turn things with more force)
How do you find the resultant force of two forces acting in different directions
Parallelogram of forces, if got wrong, go look it up in P8
