Q

How does a compass show the directions of a magnetic field. What does it have and what do you have to do

A

Inside a compass there is a bar magnet and the compass points in the direction of the magnetic field it is in. Move a compass around a magnet and trace its position on paper to build a picture of what the magnetic field looks like

Q

What way does a compass when its not near a magnet and why

A

Always points north because the earth has its own magnetic field

Q

What does the distance of the lines in a magnetic field show

A

The closer the lines the stronger the force the further the lines the weaker the force. Lines are closer when closer to the magnet

Q

What are the two different types of magnet and what is the difference

A

Permenant magnet - produce their own magnetic field
Induced magnet - magnetic materials that turn into a magnet when put into a magnetic field
