p5 Flashcards
what is a force
a push or pull that acts on an object due to its interaction with another object
what do u measure force in
newtons
what do u need to know about forces
direction
what categories can force be devided to
contact and no contact forces
what is contact forces
when the two objects are physically touching
for example friction and air resistance tension reaction force
what is non contact forces
that don’t require touching
explain reaction force
for example a rock on a table the rock has mass resting a force downwards which is it weight from keep it from falling the table should be exerting a equal opposite force upwards contact force
what are the 3 types of no contact forces
magenetic electrostatic force gravitational force
what is gravity forces of attraction
its between any two objects that have mass like the earth and a person
can magnetic force be attractive and repulsive
yes they can be both
what will the strength of the objects do if they get further apart
they will decrease
what do other scalars quantity consider include
distance mass temperature and time
what do vectors have but not scalars
direction
what are the 5 types of vectors
velocity displacement acceleration momentum force
scalars quantity doesn’t give us any direction on going
only magnitude
give a example of a vector
displacement and direction for example I walked 3km east
can vectors go negative number of direction and displace meant
yes
what dose it mean by free body diagrams
they mean simple diagrams that show all the forces that are acting in a particular object we do this using force arrows
what are the free body diagrams of a plane
one will be going forwards as thrust backwards drag down weight up lift all the classed as vectors ( direction arrows as mag)
because the forces of the plane are acting in different directions
some of them will cancel each other out what we will have lest is the resulting force which is the overall force on an object
what do we call it when there’s no resulting force on an object
we call it equlilbrium
what happens if an object changes shape we say its
beging deformed
what are the two kind of deformed
elastic and inelastic
what is extension
the increase in length of spring when its streached
for example of extension
if we hang a spring from its support wed can measure how the spring length changes as we add downwards force to the bottom of the spring for example weight pulls on the spring then we can measure spring doesn’t fall its begging equally balanced
the higher the spring Constance
the weaker the force
can u have more than one object acting in one
yes you can seasowr
in between the pivot of the force
what does a lower spring constant mean
its easier to stretch
is speed classes as a scalar
yes
what is a velocity calssed as a vector or a scalar
vector
what is a distance calssed as a scalar or vector
is a scalar as it only give magnitude like 10m and 4miles
what is displacement calssed as a vecter or a sacalor
is a vector as it has direction as well like a person running 40 m east
was is acceleration
the rate of change in a velocity
acceleration example
if it took a car to accelerate from15m/s to 35m/s to find out acceleration ww will take the change in velocity with is 35-15 + 20m/s then divide it by the time of 5 seconds + 4m/s squared
what dose the flat line tells js in a distance time graph
that the person is stationary moving
how do u calculate the speed with a tangent
that has the exact the same graditant bY picking the bottom of the target and the middle
how do u fine the gradient of a line
change in distance divided by the change in time
how do u work out the gradient in the velocity time graph
change in velocity divided by the change in time
what dose the steeper line in the velocity time graph mean
the gradient is increasing
how do u work out the distance travelled in the velocity time graph
calucclat the area of triangle 1(2 times the number the line stops times by were it reaches ten draw a rectangle and do the are of that then plus the answer
termal velocity some steps out of a plane
the person has at stationary standing still has a mass gravity pull them downwards called weight they will feel the weight will stay the same as the resultant force id the combination of all the force acting on a object the resulting force will cause them to accelerate downwards as soon as the persons starts falling the person is in act to air resistant the sir restart and drag is due to the tiny air particles that make up the Air Force of air restart will be low
what will react the air particles when a person is falling
the surface area of the person and the velocity in which the prowl is moving collide
what will the result in force do when a person is falling by the same amount of air resistance if increase in velocity
the result in force will decrease as the air resistance will increase
what happens to acceleration if we increase the velocity
the rate of acceleration will fall
how dose thermal velocity happen when person if falling
the velocity will get so high will increase the same size as the weight which now the two opposing forces will now balance each other out weight as air resistance which means they will be zero result in force then the person will stop accelerating mean velocity won’t change which is the thermal velocity
what happens if the person decides to open up they parachute
they surface area will increase massively and the air resistance the result in air will now be upwards and accelerate upwards = slow down fall slowly more they slow down slower air resistance will be samller and smaller until air resistance will be equal to the weight again result in force will be zero person will reach new thermal velocity new thermal velocity will be lower then without the parachute
what is newtons first law
that a result in force I required to change the motion of an object works for stationary and moving objects
what is newtons second law
if a non zero result in force acts on an object then it will cause the object to accelerate
what are the 5 different things happening on newtons second law
if we took a particle and draw some unbalanced forces it will be result in force to the right bigger then left arrow the particle will accelerate to the right for example
if it started stationary the acceleration would cause it to start moving to the right
then if its already moving to the right it will cause it to speed up
if the object was travelling tenth left then the right words acceleration will cause it to slow down
if it was trawling to the left more slowly it can cause to stop moving entirely
it can just result in a change in direction
what is the equation for newtons second law
realist in force = mass of the object times acceleration
what is newton third law
is when two object interact the forces that exert on each other our equal and opposite the opposite means the direction and equal means the magnitude
for example of newtons third law
if we were to push a box of 100newtons the back will push back 100newtons we call this force that the box is exerting the normal contact force
what is the thinking distance
how dar the car travels during the divers reaction time how long itvtakes for the person to see the hazard and apply the brake
what types of thinks detract thinks distance
tried
drug
ditractions
what is braking distance
how long it takes to the car to stop once the brake has been applied
what affects the braking distance
faulty brake
weathers of the today icy snow condition a tyres
what happen if we are travels at hight speed would it take longer to stop orb shorter
longer
Is air resistance a contact or non-contact force? Explain why.
air resistance is a contact force this is because due to the physical contact colliosn between the object and air particles
A moving object that has no resultant force acting upon it will:
continue moving at the same velocity
A 20 m displacement North is the same as:
- 20 displacement south
what is result in force
equal to the sum of the forces acting on an object
when the forces of the plane act in different directions some are going to cancel each other out what force do we have left
the result in force
what piece of equipment can be used to measure an objects weight
newton meter
