P3d Flashcards
What is work done?
-when a force makes an object move, energy is transferred and work is done
What is gravitational potential energy?
-the energy something has because of its height above the ground
What is kinetic energy?
-the energy of movement
What does kinetic energy depend on?
- mass
- speed
- the greater the mass and speed, then more kinetic energy
What happens when you fall?
- your gravitational potential energy is converted into kinetic energy
- the further it falls, the faster it goes
How do roller coasters work?
1-energy given to rollers coaster at the start
2-as the roller coaster moves the energy is kinetic
3-as the roller coasters goes up the kinetic energy is converted into gravitational potential energy
4-as the roller coaster descends, the gravitational potential energy is converted into kinetic energy
What is power?
-a measure of how quickly a work is is being done
What happens the the energy used to rise an object off the ground?
-object can store it and it can be changed to kinetic energy if it falls
What is a powerful machine?
-one that transfers lots of energy in a short space of time
