P3a Flashcards
1
Q
What is acceleration?
A
- how quickly speed is changing
- you accelerate when changing direction (with or without changing speed)
- a decrease in speed is deceleration
2
Q
What is the difference between speed and velocity?
A
- speed is a scalar quantity, it only measures size
- velocity is a vector quantity, it measures size and direction
3
Q
What is gravity?
A
- a force of attraction between all masses
- gravity makes everything on a planets surface accelerate towards the ground
4
Q
What is gravitational field strength?
A
-acceleration due to gravity
5
Q
What is the difference between mass and weight?
A
- mass:amount of ‘stuff’ in a substance
- weight:caused by the pull of gravity
6
Q
How do mass and change on the Moon and Earth?
A
- objects have the same mass on Earth and Moon
- objects weigh less on the Moon than on Earth because gravity pulls on things less on the Moon
7
Q
What is the gravitational field strength on Earth?
A
-10 N/kg
