P2 Physics - Forces and distance/time graphs Flashcards
what are speed and velocity both measured in?
m/s
define speed
how fast your going
define velocity
how fast you are going but with the distance specified: eg 30mph north
what does the gradient of a D/T graph tell you
how fast your object is travelling
gradient =
speed
flat sections =
object stopped/stationary
striaght uphill or downhill =
travelling at steady speed
curves represent…
acceleration or deceleration
a steepening curve =
speeding up
leveling off curve =
slowing down
what is resultant force?
object has different forces acting upon it
they can be added up to make the resultant force
what happens to an object that has resultant force acting upon it
it will change its velocity
if the resultant force of an object is zero, what will happen?
the object will remain stationary
if there is no resultant force on a moving object what happens to its velocity?
it’ll carry on moving at the same velocity
