P2 Physics - calculating work, power, gpe, KE and momentum Flashcards
whats an everyday example of work done?
walking up the stairs, lifting heavy objects
what does the work done depend on?
2 things
size of the force on object
distance object moves
whats the equation for work done?
work done = force x distance
what is power in simple terms?
measure of how quickly work is being done and how quickly energy is being transfered
whats the equation for power?
power = work done / time taken
what does the amount of GPE an object on earth has depends on?
mass
height above ground
what is the equation for calculating GPE?
what do they stand for
GPE =m x g x h
m = mass
g = gravitational field
h = change in height
what happens to an objects KE and GPE when falling through the atmosphere at terminal speed?
its KE does not increase
its GPE is transfered to surroundings as heat
what does the KE depend on?
2 things
mas and speed
whats the equation for calculating KE
what do they mean
KE = 1/2 x m x v squared m = mass v = speed in metres per second
whats the calculation for momentum?
momentum = mass x velocity
