P1.3.4 - Liquid Pressure Flashcards

1
Q

What is liquid pressure?

A

Liquid molecules are very close with together and collide with each other, the container and anything in them.
This exerts a liquid pressure.

Q

How do you show that liquid pressure increases as you go deeper?

A

By making holes in a water bottle

Less pressure at the top so water does not travel as far horizontally as at the bottom

Q

Why does liquid pressure increase as you go deeper?

A

The molecules in any layer of a liquid are being compressed by the molecules above them, making the pressure higher

Q

What happens to pressure in liquids with different densities?

A

More dense liquid will have more pressure at a certain depth as there is a greater weight of liquid pushing down

Q

What is the equation for liquid pressure?

A

Pressure (Pa) =

Height Of X Density X Gravitational Field
Column Of Strength (N/kg)
(M) Liquid
(kg/m^3)
