Define sustainability
Only using natural resources at a rate of which they can be replaced
Define the sanctity of life
All life is holy as it is created and loved by god; human life should not be misused or abused
Define stewardship
The idea that believers have a duty to look after the environment on behalf of god.
Define transcendent
The idea that God is beyond and outside life on earth and the universe; this is a quality of God.
Define omnipotent
All-powerful
What is the meaning and significance of the Creation of Adam?
- God made everything ‘very good’ as Adam is shown as idea, man
- Adam waiting for God creator to touch his life force into him
- God is powerful yet ancient
- God is depicted as human - imago dei
- closeness of hands show closeness of relationship between god and humanity
- Humanity is dependent on God
What are the books of the Old Testament?
- Law - Jews became people of God
- History - how God guided his people and they didn’t listen
- Wisdom - prayers, psalms, advice, poems on how to use talents
- Prophets - words of inspired figures sent by God
What are the books in the New Testament?
- Gospels- actions and teachings of Jesus
- Act of Apostles - events of early church
- Epistles - how to be a Christian
- Book of Revelation - John’s mystical visions describing end of world
What did the Magisterium stress about religion and science?
That they needed to be mutually supportive. They don’t contradict, they answer different questions:
Science - how
Religion - Why
How can Catholics show stewardship
- Recycle
- Walk/cycle
- support environment-friendly businesses
- Put pressure on companies who aren’t environment-friendly
How can showing stewardship be seen as showing love to your neighbour?
By taking care and sharing all the gifts God has given us shows that we are trying to look after not only our planet but the people in it as well - shows love.
