P1 Flashcards
Where does chemical energy come from
In food, fuel and electric batteries
Where does kinetic energy come from
In moving objects
Where does gravitational potential energy come from
In objects raised above a planets surface
Where does elastic potential energy come from
In a stretched, compressed or twisted object
Where does internal (thermal) energy come from
In any heated object
Where does magnetic energy come from
In any object with a magnetic field
Where does electrostatic energy come from
In electrostatic forces between charges
Where does nuclear energy come from
The forces acting between atomic nuclei
What is Work
Work is the amount of energy transferred by a force
What is Specific Heat Capacity
The amount of energy required to raise the temperature of 1 kg of a substance by one degree Celsius.
What is Power
The rate at which energy is transferred
The rate at which work is done
What is the efficiency
The amount of useful energy you get from an energy transfer, compared to the energy put in, is called the EFFICIENCY
What are some non renewable energy sources
Coal - Fossil Fuel (hard to find)
Oil - Fossil Fuel (hard to find)
Gas - Fossil Fuel (hard to find)
Nuclear - Difficult to extract
What are some renewable energy sources
Bio-fuel Wind Hydro electric Geothermal Tides Sun Waves
What are non renewable energy sources?
Energy sources are those which will eventually run
