P08 Change And Configuration Management Flashcards
What is a change?
A deviation from an agreed well defiened scope and schedule
How is an engineering change defined?
- An alteration made to a bill of materials by
- adding or deleting an item
- substituting an item with another, or
- changing the usage of an item.
- An alteration made in the functional, maintenance, performance, or physical characteristics of a product/system.
What reasons for a need of a changes do you know?
The need for a change can be caused by:
- A change in the customers’ requirements
- A change in material or manufacturing method.
- Correction of a design mistake
Which three roles are involved in the change management process?
- Customer (ext./int.): requests a change
- Change Manag. Committee: descides whether a change request will be implemented or not
- Change builder: is the work package owner whom plans and implements the change
What is a change order request?
It’s a WRITTEN formal document to modify the original contractual agreement and becomes part of the projects documents.
Which points are processed in the change request analysis?
- Determine the safety relevance of the requested change
- Determinetechnicalandorganisational feasibility
- DetermineQCD impact
- Decide whether or not requested change is executed
What is an Engineering Change Notice (ECN)?
Document which records a change to a specific design.
Control and documentation are necessary to ensure that changes are built upon a known foundation and approved by relevant authorities (change committee).
Which information must an Engineering Change Notice (ECN) contain at least?
- Identification of what needs to be changed
- Reason(s) for the change.
- The QCD impact of the change
- Description of the change
- List of documents affected by the change
- Approval of the change
- Instruction about when to introduce the change
What is Configuration Management (CM)?
A process for establishing and maintaining product integrity and consistency in the product documentation during the life cycle
Example Airbus A320 Family.
System level 0 - Family:
A320 base model
A319 and A318 shrinked
A321 streched in lenght
Each variant has specific realization details that must be carefully documented.
Subsystem level 1:
every model has its adjusted subsystem (e.g. engine A320-111)
What is the target of Configuration Management?
It ensures that it is clear how a product is currently configured and how it was configured in the past.
