Q

How was the traditional design process (“old way of working”)?

A

a sequential process, the outcome of one stage is passed on to the next stage.

This tends to lead to iteration in the design. I.e. having to go back to an earlier stage to correct mistakes.

6
Q

What is a better approach in contrast to the traditional design process?

A

considering the stages following “design” to try and eliminate any potential problems.

This means that the design engineers require help from the other experts in the company for example the industrialization and manufacturing expert to help to ensure that any designs the design engineer comes up with can be manufactured.

Q

What is a Gate Review?

A

At the end of each design process main phase stands a so-called „Gate Review“.
The result of a gate review is the so-called „GO “ or „NO GO “-decision, i.e. the decision whether from one to the next phase of the process can be continued or not.
