P06 V-cycle Flashcards
What is Opportunity Management?
It’s the process to identify business and development opportunities that can be implemented to sustain or improve the economic success of a company.
What does “to tender” mean?
It’s to invite bids for a project, or to accept a formal offer.
Tender usually refers to the process whereby internal or external customers invite bids for large projects that must be submitted within a finite deadline.
What is “Tender Management”?
Tender Management (TM) is the process of designing and writing the tenders, complete with the competitive pricing.
What are the development stages of the development of a new product? (Hint: 7x)
- Oppertunity Manag.
- Tender Manag.
- Negotiation
- Project transfer
- Design a. development
- Serial production
- Warranty Manag.
How was the traditional design process (“old way of working”)?
a sequential process, the outcome of one stage is passed on to the next stage.
This tends to lead to iteration in the design. I.e. having to go back to an earlier stage to correct mistakes.
What is a better approach in contrast to the traditional design process?
considering the stages following “design” to try and eliminate any potential problems.
This means that the design engineers require help from the other experts in the company for example the industrialization and manufacturing expert to help to ensure that any designs the design engineer comes up with can be manufactured.
What are the typical main phases of the V-cycle?
Specification Phase I
Preliminary Design Phase I
Detail Design Phase v
Prototype Manufacturing Phase I
Prototype Validation Phase I
Limited Manufacturing Phase v
What are activities within the -specification phase- of the V-Cycle?
- Identify essential Challenges
- Establish function structures
- Search for solution principles
- Combine and firm up into concept variants
- Evaluate against technical and economic criteria
What are activities within the -prelininary design phase- of the V-Cycle?
- Develop preliminary layouts and form designs
- Select best preliminary layouts
- Refine and evaluate against technical and economic criteria
What are activities within the -detail design phase- of the V-Cycle?
- Finalize details
- Complete detail drawings and manufacturing documents
- Check documents
What is a Gate Review?
At the end of each design process main phase stands a so-called „Gate Review“.
The result of a gate review is the so-called „GO “ or „NO GO “-decision, i.e. the decision whether from one to the next phase of the process can be continued or not.
When are the gate reviews planned and scheduled?
All project gate reviews are planned and scheduled at the start of the project.
What are the gate reviews within the design and manufacturing phase?
Design Phase:
Specification Gate Review (SGR)
Preliminary Gate Review (PGR)
Critical Gate Review (CGR)
Manufacturing Phase:
First Equipment Inspection (FEI)
Initial Quality Approval (IQA)
Final Quality Approval (FQA)
What are the conditions for a Validation Go?
- Functional validation plan is fully performed
- 1st assemblies are reviewed
- Transferability from Project Centre of Excellence to Manufacturing Centre of Excellence is checked
- QCD targets are achievable
What are the results of a Validation Go?
- Design is frozen
- Functionalities are validated
- Assemblies are validated
