Write a Definition of Frequency and what’s it measured in?
- Frequency is the number of vibrations per second made by the wave.
- Frequency is Measured in Herts (Hz) 1 Hz is 1 wave per second.
Write a Definition of a Period?
- Period is the amount of time it takes 1 complete wave to pass a certain point.
Name the 2 Different types of waves?

- Main Uses:Light,Radio,Microwaves and Gamma waves.
- Transverses Waves travel 300 million m/s
What Happens in a Transverse Waves and How Do they move in a direction?
- In Transverse waves Particles vibrate in a direction perpendicular to the direction of propagation of the wave.
What are formed in transverse Waves and where do they form?
- Peaks and Troughs are formed in these waves.
- These waves are formed on the surface of solid and liquids.
What’s The main use of longitudinal waves and how do particles travel?
- The Main use: Sound.
- Particles vibrate in a direction Parallel to the direction of propagation of the wave.
What is formed in longitudinal waves and where is it formed?
- Compression and rarefaction is formed.
- Longitudinal waves are formed in solids liquids and gases.
What’s the equation of a period of a wave?
- 1 ÷ Frequency
What’s the equation of Wave speed?
- Frequency (Hz) x Wavelength (m)
In 4 Steps how do You Calculate waves on water (PRATICAL)
- 1) Place a ruler onto a piece of card underneath the tank and turn on the power supply.
- 2) Measure the distance of 10 consecutive waves.
- 3) Divide this number by 10 to calculate 1 wave length.
- 4) To calculate Frequency you would time how many waves pass a point a second.
In 5 Steps how do you calculate waves in air (PRATICAL)
- 1) Measure the Length of the string at the second harmonic this will be 1 wavelength.
- 2) Set The frequency so jest 1 wave is on the string.
- 3) Record the frequency.
- 4) Increase the frequency until 2 waves arrear.
- 5) Repeat once more.
Write a Definition of Electromagnetic Spectrum?
- Electromagnetic spectrum is a Continuous spectrum of all the possible wavelength of Electromagnetic waves.
What Do electromagnetic waves Transfer and what type of waves are electromagnetic waves?
- Electromagnetic waves transfer energy from a sauce to an absorber.
- Electromagnetic Waves are transverse waves.
What Do all electromagnetic waves travel at and what are they grouped on?
- All electromagnetic Waves travel at the same speed.
- They are grouped based on frequency and wavelength.
Name the 7 different types of waves in the electromagnetic spectrum in order?
- 1) Radio waves.
- 2) Microwaves
- 3) Inferred waves.
- 4) Visible Light.
- 5) Ultra violent Radiation.
- 6) X-Ray
- 7) Gamma radiation.
What’s The mnemonic To Remember the 8 common uses of Radio waves?

- Big Satellites can help make space really friendly
Name all The uses of Microwaves?
- Microwaves are used to heat up food and water.
- Its also used in radar, Telephone and other signals.
Name All the uses of Infrared Radiation?
- Transmits heat from sun, Radiators and fires.
- And Used in heat redaction to warm up your house.
Name all the 2 uses of Visible Light?
- Visible light makes things able to be seen.
- Its Also Used in fibre optic Communications
Name all the Uses of Ultraviolent?
- Absorbed By the skin and used in Fluorescent tubes.
Name all the uses of X-Rays?
- X-rays are used to view inside of bones and objects.
Name all the uses of Gamma rays?
- Gamma Rays are Used in medicine for killing cancer cells.
What’s The mnemonic to Remember the Electromagnetic spectrum?
