p 3 Flashcards
1
Q
vector
A
both magnitude and direction
2
Q
scalar
A
describes magnitude only
3
Q
If a plane is flying 80 km/h North in a 20 km/h East wind what will be the resulting speed and direction?
A
80^2 + 20^2 = C^2 = 82.5 km/h due Northeast

Q
A cannon is fired and the cannonball is traveling at a speed of 120 m/s for 4 seconds before it hits the ground (which is level with the cannon). How far did it go? How far did it fall from its straight line path? (assume no air resistance)
A
(120 x 4) = 480 m;
D = ½ g t^2 = ½ 10 4^2 = 80 meters (nothing is affecting it besides gravity, which is why this is used)
