The lengthening of a speech sound or maintaining the posture of the lips, tongue or other parts of the speech mechanism in an attempt to modify the stuttering pattern.

Melody of speech, determined primarily by modifications of pitch, quality, strenght and druration, perceived primarily as stress and intonational patterns.
