A
- Suspected hypoxia or respiratory distress from any cause
- Acute chest pain in which myocardial infarction is suspected
- Shock (decreased oxygenation of tissue) from any cause
- Trauma
- Carbon monoxide poisoning

Contraindications?

A
- None

Administration?

A
- Adult and Pediatric
- Low flow [NC 1-2 L/MN] patients with chronic lung disease with unusaul dyspnea or other problems
- Moderate flow [NC 4-6 L/MN] precautionary use for trauma, chest pain, etc
- High flow [NRB 10-15 L/MN] Severe respiratory distress, either medical or traumatic, shock, or at providers discretion

Special Notes?

A
- If patient is not breating adequately on his/her own then ASSIST with ventilation
- Be prepared to assist ventilation on patients with chronic lung disease
- Oxygen toxicity (overdose) is not a hazard from acute administration
- Nasal prongs work equally well on nose and mouth breathers
