A
- Narcatic antagonist

Indications?
A
- Drug overdose caused by narcatic agents such as morphine, demerol, heroin, dilaudid, percodan, codeine, lomotil, propoxyphene (Darvon), pentazocine (Talwin)
- For unconcious of unknown etiology

Contraindications?
A
- Hypersensitivity
- Absences of indication

Drug Interaction?
A
- May induce narcotic withdrawal

Administration?
A
- Adult: [0.4 mg-2.0 mg] IM/SQ, titrate to respiratory effort/rate. May be repeated at 2-3 minutes, if needed. [2 mg(1 per naris)]
- Pediatric: [0.1 mg/kg] 0-5 yrs or 20 kgs of body weight; children > 5 yrs and older or weighing more than 20 kgs may be given 2.0 mgs IM, SQ, IO. May be repeated at 0.1 mg/kg if no response.
- Neonate: [0.1 mg/kg] IM, SQ, IO, repeat in 2-3 mins if needed.
- Mix 1 ml of naloxone, 0.4 mg in 9 ml of D5W, which gives 0.04 mg/ml

- The patient may quickly become concious and combative
