Administration?

A
  • Adult: [2.5-5.0 mg] up to 10 mg in 3 ml sterile saline as inhalation
  • Pediatrics: [1.25-2.5 mg] up to 5 mg in 3 ml sterile saline as inhalation; over 5-15 minutes
  • Or patients own bronchodilator using pre-measured or metered inhalation device

  • Beta adrenergic agents; increases effects
  • MAO inhibitors; may lead to hypertensive crisis
  • Beta adrenergic blockers; may decrease effects

  • Most side effects are dosage related
  • Take care if patient is already using inhaler due to possible development of severe paradoxical airway resistance with excessive use
  • May decrease aterial oxygen tension acutely by causing bronchodilation in areas of lung with poor blood perfusion
