Oxidative Phosphorylation Flashcards
What happens during oxidative phosphorylation?
electrons and protons are released from reduced enzymes
electrons pass along the electron transport chain in a series of redox reactions
this releases enegy which is used to create a proton gradient - protons diffuse down their electrochemical gradient through ATP synthase - chemiosmosis
provides energy for ADP + Pi -> ATP
oxygen is the final electron acceptor which combines with electrons and protons to form water
What is the outer membrane?
the long lines - the first part
What is the inner membrane space?
space between outer membrane and inner membrane
What is the inner membrane?
where all of the things are e.g. proton gradient etc
