What is the SOA for Linezolid?

A

Resistant Gram (+) Bacteria such as:
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE)
Listeria

Linezolid is an alternative to Daptomycin for treating infections caused by VRE.

What is the MOA of Linezolid?

A

Inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 23S ribosomal RNA which prevents the initiation complex. This unique mechanism reduces the likelihood of cross-resistance with other antibiotics.

A

Weekly monitoring of CBC due to risk of thrombocytopenia, when the drug is used for more than 10 days.

A

SSRIs, MAOIs, and tyramine-containing foods can cause serotonin syndrome (confusion, hyperreflexia, hyperthermia)
