Clindamycin Flashcards
What bacteria does Clindamycin work against?
Gram positive bacteria (Staph- including MRSA and strep)
Anaerobes
What bacteria is resistant to Clindamycin?
C.diff
What is the adverse side effect of Clindamycin?
C diff associated diarrhea which can result in pseudomembranous colitis. This occurs when there is an overgrowth of C. diff in the gut after the normal flora is disrupted by clindamycin
What are potential drug interactions with Clindamycin?
Clindamycin and Erythromycin share the same site on the 50S ribosomal unit. When given together, they can cause antagonistic effects making both drugs less effective. They also share cross-resistance. This means that resistance to one can imply resistance to another.
