Overview of Lymphatics Flashcards
What are the descriptions of the lymphatics?
- network of lymph vessels (these vessels connect to lymph nodes)
- Lymph nodes
What is the anatomy of the lymphatics?
vessels parallel the venous system
What does the lymphatic remove?
they remove toxins from lymph before entering circulation
Do lymphatics have valves?
yes
a one way system
What does the lymph return?
they return plasma to venous circulation
Lymphs are part of what system?
they function part of the immune system
Define lymph nodes
bean-shaped bodies which are filled w/lymphatic tissues and lymphocytes
There are two types of lymph nodes. name them
- Afferent Vessels: flowing into the lymph nodes
2. Efferent Vessels: flowing out of the lymph nodes
What is hilus?
depression on the efferent side
Describe a healthy lymph nodes?
small, soft and mobile
Define lymphocytes
functional cells of the lymph system
white blood cells
define lymphadenopathy
disease state of lymph nodes and/or vessels
Define Tonsillar tissue
mass of lymphoid tissue near airway and food passages (reduntency)
Trace the Right Side Lymphatic Anatomy
Right Side:
vessels collect into the Right Lymphatic Duct which empties into the junction of right subclavian and right internal jugular veins
Trace the Left Side Lymphatic anatomy
Left Side:
vessels collect into the Left Thoracic Duct which empties into the junction of left subclavian and left internal jugular
