Overview nephron Flashcards
1) Bowmans capsule
1) BP in capillaries at one end of glomerulus pushes fluid into Bowmans capsule
2) RBC and large proteins (albumin) unable pass from glomerulus to bowmans capsule
3) Water, ions, aa small enough to pass (filtrate)
2) Proximal convoluted tubule
1) Filtrate travels from Bowmans capsule into proximal convoluted tubule
2) Reabsorb important nutrients present in filtrate
3) Nutrients transported out nephron into interstitial space
4) Nutrients reabsorbed by capillaries
5) Waste products transported into filtrate
3) Descending limb of loop of henle
1) Descending limb only permeable water
2) Descending loop descends from cortex into medulla the concentration of salts in interstitium increases
3) Water diffuse out filtrate in descending part loop
4) Urine conc increase
4) Ascending loop of henle
1) Ascending loop only permeable salts not water
2) Salts leave via passive and active diffusion
3) Filtrate dilutes- make blood hypertonic
5) Distal convoluted tubule
1) Ammonia and urea transported into filtrate for excretion
2) Calcium and sodium continue reabsorbed
3) Water follow sodium out
6) Collecting ducts
1) Combine filtrate from other nephrons
2) More water leaves
3) Variable permeability- aldosterone and ADH
