Overview Metabolism Flashcards
Anabolism
Process of converting small molecules into more complex molecules, reactions are endergonic
Catabolism
Process of converting metabolic fuels into energy with excess diverted to biosynthesis. Reactions are exergonic and yield ATP and NADH
Heart metabolites and products
Metabolites: fatty acids, glucose, ketone bodies
Products: CO2 and H2O
Brain metabolites and products
Metabolites: ketone bodies, glucose
Products: CO2, H2O
Adipose metabolites and products
Metabolites: fatty acids, glycerol, glucose
Products: fatty acids, glycerol, triacylglycerols
Liver metabolites
Ketone bodies, aceyl-coa, fatty acids, glycerol, lactate, pyruvate, glucose, glycogen, urea, amino acids, proteins
Note: most of the metabolites are taken out of the liver and transported to other organs
