How do you treat opioid overdose? When is this drug indicated?
Naloxone (an opioid antagonist)
Indicated if the RR<10 or if GCS<10.
What are the 3 characteristic features of opioid overdose?
Pinpoint pupils (constricted pupils; miosis), respiratory depression and delirium/confusion
What treatment is given in reversing aspirin or tricyclic antidepressant overdose?
Sodium bicarbonate
What treatment is given to reverse paracetamol overdose?
N-acetylcysteine
What are the signs of paracetamol overdose?
Jaundice, loss of coordination, hypoglycaemia (which can cause sweating, trembling and irritability)
What are the signs of aspirin overdose?
Sweating, tinnitus, temporary hearing loss and rapid breathing
