Where do the ovaries lie?

A

The ovaries lie in the superior part of the pelvic cavity, on each side of the uterus. They are small flattened structures with a lobulated surface.

Remind yourself of the venous drainage of the ovaries

A

The right ovarian vein drains into the inferior vena cava and the left ovarian vein drains into the left renal vein. They run through the suspensory ligament, from the lateral wall of the pelvis towards the ovary.

A

Describe what the epididymis passes through

A

The epididymis is continuous with the ductus deferens. It terminates in the posterior bladder. It passes through the superficial ring, traverses the inguinal canal, then the body enters the cavity via the deep inguinal ring. Because it is a site of potential weakness in the abdominal wall, the inguinal canal is a common site of a potential weakens in the abdominal wall, the inguinal canal is a common site for hernias to develop
