What is seen microscopically in endometriosis?
Endometrial glands and stroma
Haemorrhage, inflammation, fibrosis

Adhesions

Ectopic pregnancy
Malignancy (endometrioid carcinoma)
Serous carcinoma - two types
High grade (95%) = serous tubal intraepithrlial carcinoma
Must remove ovaries + tubes
Low grade serous carcinoma (5%) = serous borderline tumour
Brenner tumour
A tumour of transitional-type epithelium, usually benign
Germ cell tumours
Teratoma
Mature, benign cyst (v rarely becomes malignant)
Can differentiate into different structures - teeth, hair, sebum, respiratory epithelium
Staging system for cancer in the gynae tract
Figo staging
Commonest site of ectopic pregnancy implantation
