Outcome Two: Cells And Systems Flashcards
What are unicellular organisms?
Organisms made up of a single cell.
What are multicellular organisms?
Organisms made up of two or more cells.
What substances move in and out of cells?
Water, gases and food.
What is diffusion?
The movement of particles of a substance from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration.
What is a selectively permeable membrane?
A membrane that only allows certain particles to pass through but not all.
What is osmosis?
Diffusion of water through a selectively permeable membrane.
What is connective tissue?
Supports and connects different parts of the body; blood, fat, cartilage, bones and tendons.
What is epithelial tissue?
Covers the body surface and outside organ surfaces; skin is a example.
What is nervous tissue?
Makes up brain, spin cord and nerves.
What is muscle tissue?
Assist in moving an organism as well as moving material through the organism.
