The Self check is an assit to help police deal the with ethical dilemmas experienced from frontline policing.

What are the functions of police?
- Keeping the peace.
- Maintaining public safety.
- Law enforcement.
- Crime prevention.
- Community support and reassurance.
- National security.
- Emergency management.
- Participation in policing activities outside New Zealand.
Why is mindset important in policing work?
Policing is about personal performance. Peoples ability to deliver the right outcomes determine our success. Mindset is critical to your personal success, team, and police.
What is NZ police’s vision?
Keep New Zealand safe, by preventing crime, improving public safety, and bringing offenders to justice.
What is Section 3 of the Policing Act 2008?
The functions of police, and how they are to perform their work.
Telling cops how to do their job.
What is Section 8 of PA08?
Principles that govern the police:
* Relies on public support.
* national framework —- local community focus.
* Impartial / Independant working.
What is Section 16 of PA08?
Outlines the responsibilities of the commisioner of the police.
E.g. responsible for functions of police // not responsible for maintanance of order.
What is section 19 & 22 of the PA08?
- Solem Undertaking - by fresh recruits.
- Constable Oath – by graduating recruits to constable.

Outlines that the commisioner is to set the standard for code of conduct within police.
What is section 30 of PA08?
Command & Control.
Stating that all constables must follow the reasonable and lawful instructions of their superiors.

Offences.

- Emotional abuse of child.
- Physical or sexual abuse of child.
