Inhibits cross-linking and membrane pore formation (binds acyl-D-ala-D-ala, NOT PBPs)

No cross-sensitivity to penicillins or cephalosporins

slow IV; orally only for C. difficile infection

Red man syndrome
Enhances nephrotoxicity of other abs
Ototoxicity at high levels

A
Staph and strep infections in pt allergic to penicillin
