Hebrew Civilization
(1900BC-100AD) established the first lasting monotheistic religion, which became the basis for modern Judism.
Where did the Jewish community initially live?
Near Canaan, (near today’s Isreal/Middle East) but they moved to Egypt under Joseph, where they were later enslaved. (By an Egyptian Pharaoh)
What was “The Exodus”?
Moses lead The Exodus- the event where the jews fled Egyptian rule to get away from Slavery.
What happened in the Hebrew community around 1000BC when their famous leader Saul was in charge?
- the 12 tribes of the Hebrew (Isreal) nation united.
- time of united prosperity and strength
- during this period the teachings of Moses were written down to form the Torah
- studied the teaching of Moses and the 10 commandments.
What was the “Torah”?
First 5 books in the old testament, written down to form the Torah.
After the death of Solomon….
Hebrew Civilization split into two kingdoms. (northern) Israel and (southern) Judah. Eventually they were both destroyed.
What is Diaspora?
Jews spreading from Isreal/Canaan (homeland) and spreading out to the rest of the world.
When the Hebrew Civilization had conflicts with Rome, what happened?
led to the destruction of Jerusalem and the expulsion of many Jews from Palestine. Jesus was a jew executed by the Romans, he was the king of the Jews- major even in Christian religion.
The name Judah or Judia is the basis for Jews as well. (the Kingdom of Judah/or tribe, was named after the leader)
