Indus Valley Civilization
(3300-1700 BC)
- evolved into a highly advanced culture
- architectural achievements included a planned urban grid and a world’s first urban sanitation system. (rate of diseases were low)
Harrapan Civilization
during it’s mature phase, the Indus Valley Civilzation was also referred to as the Harrapan Civilization.

Hinduism
A diverse belief system which spans the gamut of Monotheism, Polytheism, AND Pantheism (one god of all things in the Universe)
- Hard to classify, underlying god force, but different heads.
- lead to a CASTE SYSTEM in Indian society.
- Dharma, Karma, you have your duties, stay in your own caste
- birth and rebirth
- world and heavens are all in one sphere.

- Rulers and Warriors
- Merchants and Artisans
- Peasants
Untouchables (not even in the caste system so low)
-used all the way into 1900’s but was abolished.
What kind of geography did India have?
-very open, which subjected the region to wave after wave of invasions from Central Asia to the surrounding regions (also why there is over a dozen of different languages and different religions.
