Students may need use of a computer for spell check software or word processing for faster, more efficient writing.
If spelling/grammar is not a core learning objective, faculty should allow these tools. If it is a core objective, consult SAS for alternative solutions.
Can students record lectures if they have auditory processing disorders or ADHD?
Yes, students may need to record lectures due to these conditions.
Faculty cannot deny this if approved by SAS, but students cannot share or distribute recordings per confidentiality rules. Faculty can request students to sign an audio recording agreement.
What modified participation requirements may some students need?
Some students may need to respond to discussion prompts in writing, participate in small group discussions, or have extra time to process and respond.
This applies to students with social anxiety, autism, or processing disorders.
What accommodations may students with anxiety or chronic pain need during class or exams?
Students may need short, approved breaks during lectures or tests.
Breaks should be timed and reasonable, such as 5-minute stretch breaks for pain management.
